Abstract in English
The set of essays assembled herein is divided into two parts. The first one comprises studies related to cities expanded by networks. The second one, on the other hand, presents research on cultural memory and on its relationship with contemporary art. In the texts about cities and networks, particular emphasis was given to the impact of the digitalization processes in our daily life, especially the control systems and the new formats of resistance and activism emerging in the 21st century. Another important point of this set of discussions is the aesthetics mediated by the Internet, which permeates all the essays of this first part. This first section is concluded with a work of net art _ #cidadESpelhadas (mirrored cities), which explores interface design aspects and the volatility of the urban landscape pictured by online cameras. This last paper makes the transition to the second part, whose focus is the urgent need to think about new paradigms of conservation in the face of the documentary explosion of the 21st century and the rapid obsolescence of digital storage systems. In this context, projects such as Memory of Amnesia, in which contemporary art points out procedures to tighten cultural heritage policies from architectural, conceptual and institutional points of view, are also discussed. In the two parts of the work, I have tried to articulate both the theoretical production and the artistic experimentation, without creating divisions between the fields of ideas and practices. Nonetheless, such fields were handled as having different ways of thinking, as well as specific abilities to address the relationship between art, design and historical heritage in contemporary urban culture.
