Abstract in English
The current society needs citizens who can read and interpret data presented by charts and tables. In order to a possible contribution to the formation of more prepared people, this research proposes teaching mathematics through contents of statistic of the block Information Treatment, with emphasis on reading, interpretation and construction of tables and graphs for Students from Youth and Adults Education (EJA). Therefore, it was used a didactic sequence with contextualized activities to the routine of the students, developed from the responses analysis of a socioeconomic questionnaire, a diagnostic evaluation and a conversation circle inside a methodology that followed the presuppositions of the Didactic Engineering. The activities were carried out with the students from the 2nd year class of EJA in high school of a public school in the state of São Paulo. The collected data were analyzed according to the levels of tabular and graphical understanding proposed by Curcio (1989) and the registers of semiotic representation from Duval (2003). During the application of the didactic sequence, there was a great interest from the students in carrying out the contextualized activities. In the a posteriori analysis, it could be proved a significant increase of the cognitive level of the students related to reading and interpreting graphs and tables, and the use of more registers of semiotic representation of a same mathematical object.
