Esta dissertação reavalia o papel que a interação entre os pares tem na determinação do lócus de controle, uma medida de quão pessoalmente responsável uma pessoa se sente com relação ao que acontece na sua vida. O estudo se concentra no contexto escolar, utilizando os dados de alunos majoritariamente no Ensino Médio do sistema de ensino público e privado de Sertãozinho, um município brasileiro perto da cidade de São Paulo. De forma análoga ao trabalho que produziu a primeira análise dessa relação, a estratégia empírica utiliza variáveis instrumentais baseadas na estrutura de painel dos dados, porém de modo menos restritivo. Diferente de tal estudo, os resultados desta avaliação apresentam evidência de efeito de pares endógeno significativo sobre o lócus de controle. O efeito é positivo e se mantém robusto à inclusão de controles adicionais

This dissertation re-evaluates the role of peer interaction in the determination of the locus of control, a measure of how personally responsible an individual feels about what happens in their life. The essay focuses on the school context, using data of students mostly in the High School of the public and private schooling system of Sertãozinho, a Brazilian municipality near the city of São Paulo. Similar to the research that produced the first analysis of this relationship, the empirical strategy uses instrumental variables based on the panel structure of the data, but in a less restrictive way. Unlike that study, the results of this evaluation show evidence of significant endogenous peer effect on the locus of control. The effect is positive and remains robust to the inclusion of additional controls
