Abstract in English
Endophytic bacteria probably developed a relationship with their plant host through coevoltionary processes what could influence in the physiology of the plant. In the literature, there are many reports about endophytic Bacillus species, however, few reports cite endophytic B. thuringiensis (Bt). Thus, the aim of the present work was to isolate, identify and characterize Bt from cassava. All the isolates identified as Bt were able to produce punctual crystals, but only one isolate, IIRAC22, produced large amorphous crystals. This isolate presented cry4A, cry4B and cry10 genes and toxicity against larvae of Aedes aegypti and Culex quinquefasciatus, evidencing to be Bt var. israelensis. All the isolates produced quitinase, suggesting that they can control phytopathogeni fungi and insects. There was also pectinase production, enzyme involved in the penetration of plant hosts and establishment as endophytes. These endophytic Bt can take to the development of biotechnological products for the control of insect.
