Abstract in English
This study consists on the application of the Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), a hazard identification and a risk assessment technique, to the Emergency Cooling System (ECS) of an experimental nuclear power plant, which is responsible for mitigating the consequences of an eventual loss of coolant accident on the Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR). Such analysis intends to identify possible weaknesses on the design of the system and propose some improvements in order to maximize its reliability. To achieve this goal a detailed study of the system was carried on (through its technical documentation), the correspondent reliability block diagram was obtained, the FMEA analysis was executed and, finally, some suggestions were presented.
