Abstract in English
Focusing on results that describe reality and, organized in a fragmented way, Science Education currently tracks previously established paths that lead to a simplified visualization of the multiple dimensions that intervene in educational situations. Because of this type of teaching organization, conflicts can be seen in students' logics and difficulty in understanding and arguing of the scientific knowledge, as well as in decision-making in situations that imply broad and contextualized analysis. In view of this situation, the STEAM approach is presented as a possibility for orientation and organization of the science educational curriculum, which proposes, through project based learning the integration of Natural Sciences with Technologies, Engineering, Arts, Design and Mathematics. However, a proposed reorganization of Science Education from the traditional conception of education to a STEAM curriculum can be source of tensions in several grounds of the school context. Considering the complex approach, the research had the theoretical support of the Theory of Activity, which allows the reading of the phenomenon, from the cultural historical perspective. The data was collected with the application of questionnaires and interviews with teachers, school's coordinators and principals that are directly involved in the curricular transformation. The data analysis was based on the identification and systematization of the activities of the subjects, along with the location of tensions and contradictions in this process that are emergent and fundamental for the inauguration of expansive cycles of learning. The analysis allowed the identification of five activities that make up a system that, according to the focus of observation of the research, presented as the central theme the activity of curricular transformation. As well as teaching and learning activities, motivated by the transformation of the curriculum, this activity was configured as an activity for teachers. However, in view of the nature of its routine in school, this same activity was presented as an action in the activities of coordinators and principals. Emerging from the process of reorganization of Science Education, tensions corresponding to the different hierarchical levels of the analysis were found. These tensions were organized in four categories that contemplate the contradiction between the value of use and the exchange value of the activity, the opposition on the maintenance of the structures and their transformation into a new model, the contradiction about the individual aspects and the collective perception and the duality between choice over the depth and width of content. With indications of overcoming the collective production of new meanings on the STEAM curriculum, the resolution of the tensions allows the transformation in activities, the incorporation of new elements into reality, and indicates some attributes for its recontextualization.
