Critical and transformative education of physics teachers: a proposal from the history of science

Abstract in English
The current set of physics teachers training programs points out to a complex scenario, with a great number of proposals and different points of view about which model of teacher is expected and which knowledge he or she must possess. In this thesis, we defend a critical and transformative education of teachers, in order to afford a critical view of the world and encourage a transformative behavior, so that the teachers can be able to deal with the complex scenario that surrounds them. The History of Science, offering a wider comprehension about the construction of scientific knowledge, can be a resource to develop a critical and transformative education of physics teachers. From this, we elaborate an approach of History of Science that promoted the critical and transformative education, called Multicontextual Approach of History of Science (AMHIC). Based on the conception of contextual teaching, the AMHIC proposes the teaching of historical episodes through three contexts: scientific, metascientific and pedagogical. The approach was applied in the physics teacher training program of Universidade Federal do Triângulo Mineiro, in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. We collected a set of written data, field notes and interviews. The results indicate that pre-service teachers developed some of the aspects of critical and transformative education.
