Teoria da Atividade.
Abstract in Portuguese
UP (Student-Centered Active Learning Enviroment with Upside-down Pedagogies).

Abstract in English
In recent years, several studies have focused on alternative methods of teaching and learning processes, which have given rise to several new teaching methodologies around the world, such as PBL (Problem-Based Learning), POGIL (Process-Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning), Peer-Instruction, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths), TEAL (Technology-Enabled Active Learning) and SCALE-UP (Student-Centered Active Learning Environment with Upside Down Pedagogies). These methodological approaches, although slightly different, have, in their conception, two aspects in common: the proposition of the student as the protagonist in the teaching and learning process and the focus on cooperation through interactions in the classroom, between students and teachers and between the students themselves. The main objective of this research is to understand, from the perspective of Socio-Cultural-Historical Activity Theory, the educational and institutional conditions that allow the introduction and maintenance of an innovative methodological proposal for teaching in a higher education institution. This study is based on the case study of the implementation of the SCALE-UP methodology at Universidade de São Paulo.
