Abstract in English
This research aims to verify the acquisition process of natural science terms by students at an elementary school located on the outskirts of São Paulo City. In order to conduct this investigation of students vocabulary acquisition levels, it was used a corpus constituted by 130 specific questionnaires that contain 10 terms related to Sciences. These screened 10 words are often present on definitions, explanations and examples of common learning books (schoolbooks) that are selected and distributed to all public schools by Brazilian Education Ministry (MEC). The theoretical dialogues have been based upon Vygotskys psycholinguistic studies and also upon other studies in the fields of Lexicology, Lexicography, Terminology and of Applied Linguistics and which have been developed by many researchers, for example, Estopà; Cabré; Lara; Coady; Lewis; Araújo and Souza; Krieger and Finatto. Based on the analysis of the collected data and on the theoretical dialogues, it was possible to evidence some contradictions that may mark the overview of ones own learning in matter of Sciences.
