Esta pesquisa se insere na área de Estudos Comparados de Literaturas de Língua Portuguesa, tentando compreender o surgimento da revista literária O Futuro. Criada por Faustino Xavier de Novais em 15 de setembro de 1862, circulou até 1 de julho de 1863 e contou com vinte exemplares. Diferiu-se das publicações vigentes no período, pois reuniu escritores portugueses e brasileiros propondo a criação de um campo comum que fortaleceria as relações luso-brasileiras e combateria o estranho domínio representado, sobretudo, pela presença marcante da literatura francesa. Assim, esta revista defendeu a divulgação e livre circulação de obras literárias das nações do futuro: Portugal e Brasil. À luz de estudos sobre o desenvolvimento da imprensa no país, realizados por Molina (2014) e Sodré (1999), e baseando-se nas reflexões elaboradas por Massa (2009) e Sandmann (2004) acerca da existência de relações luso-brasileiras intermediadas, principalmente, pelo escritor Machado de Assis, buscamos compreender o que foi esta revista e refletir sobre alguns círculos de sociabilidade da época. Para tanto, realizamos, primeiramente, um mapeamento do periódico. Criamos três tabelas dispondo os dados encontrados e um dicionário biobibliográfico sobre os colaboradores desta revista. Em seguida, pontuamos alguns elementos presentes na carta de abertura escrita por R. Carlos Montoro e, por fim, elencamos dados em torno de três escritores: Faustino X. de Novais, Camilo C. Branco e Machado de Assis, grandes responsáveis pela concretização deste periódico. O corpus estudado apresentou novidades literárias sobretudo o romance Agulha em Palheiro - partituras musicais e gravuras, denotando os aspectos modernos deste periódico que visou, aparentemente, atingir não só o público masculino como também o feminino.

This research is included in the field of Comparative Studies of Literatures of Portuguese Language, and intends to understand the emergence of the literary magazine O Futuro. Created by Faustino Xavier de Novais on September 15, 1862, this magazine circulated until July 1, 1863, and had a total of twenty editions. It differed from the other magazines published at that time, for it counted with both Portuguese and Brazilian writers, who proposed the creation of a common field that would strengthen the Luso-Brazilian relations and fight the strange domain represented, mainly, by the remarkable presence of the French Literature. This way, this magazine defended the spread and the free circulation of the literary works of the nations of the future: Portugal and Brazil. In the light of the studies about the press development in the country, conducted by Molina (2014) and Sodré (1999), and based on the reflections produced by Massa (2009) and Sandmann (2004) regarding the existence of the Luso-Brazilian relations mediated, mainly, by the writer Machado de Assis, we intend to understand what this magazine was and reflect on some circles of sociability at that period. To make it possible, at first, we mapped the magazine. Then, we made three tables organizing the data found and also made a biographical dictionary about the collaborators on the magazine. After that, we pointed out some elements present in the opening letter written by R. Carlos Montoro and, finally, we listed data around three writers: Faustino X. de Novais, Camilo C. Branco and Machado de Assis, who were largely responsible for the embodiment of the magazine. The corpus studied presented literary novelties notably the novel Agulha em Palheiro musical scores and illustrations, denoting the modern aspects of this magazine that intended, apparently, to reach not only the male public, but also the female one.
