Abstract in English
The objective of this thesis is to perform a comparative analysis of Angústia, by Graciliano Ramos, and Uma abelha na chuva, by Carlos de Oliveira taking as central aspect the question of protagonists paralysis in the present and the relations between different social classes within the narratives. The authors try to figure out human destinies of each of the countries dominant classes strata that, without being protagonists of the process of capitalist modernization, try to recover the position of domination or prevent any change; likewise, we try to demonstrate the possibility of figuration of social forces in struggle in reality. It is also part of our problem the fact that both novels are structured with techniques such as the stream of consciousness, for the Brazilian novel, and the adoption of different characters points of view by the narrator in the Portuguese narrative. Our comparison, then, is to understand how, despite the formal innovations mentioned, they do not eternalize the anguish lived by the characters, but instead root them in the social relations established by the characters within the dynamics of the novel; these, in turn, refer to the historical reality of the production of the novels. We take as starting point the theory of realism as developed by G. Lukács, being understood as a method and not a model, that is, an attitude towards the real and not a set of norms of composition.
