Quatro-Olhos, romance de Renato Pompeu, foi publicado em 1976, ao longo do processo da chamada Abertura Política do regime militar brasileiro. A presente dissertação tem como objetivo, à luz da teoria crítica, estudar as relações entre a organização formal dessa obra e o novo tempo nacional inaugurado pelo golpe de 1964. Para isso, intenta-se uma análise da construção do protagonista, cujo apelido dá título ao romance, e do projeto político-artístico que teria realizado no passado. No presente, algum momento após 1968, mas ainda sob a ditadura, Quatro-Olhos tenta reescrever sua obra pretérita e projetará, ao final da trama, reescrevê-la ainda outra vez. Este trabalho pretende realizar uma interpretação do romance a partir da maneira como o protagonista tenta recuperar uma atitude política do tempo social em que as forças coletivas de esquerda vigiam em um presente em que elas já não têm a força anterior. Tudo isso sob o signo do delírio marca essencial do protagonista de Quatro-Olhos.

Quatro-olhos, a novel by Renato Pompeu, was first published in 1976, during the brazilian military dictatorships Opening Policy. The aims of this thesis is to introduce a study of the relations between the formal organization of the book and the new nation time, established by the coup of 1964. For that, the thesis investigates the construction of the main character, whose nickname entitles the novel, and his political and artistic project that he allegedly performed in the past. In the enunciative present, at some moment after 1968 but still under the dictatorship, Quatro-olhos tries to rewrite his past work and will project, at the end of the plot, to write it one more time. This thesis intends to provide an interpretation of the novel by demonstrating how the main character tries to recover, in a present time when it doesnt have the previous strength, the political attitude from the past time when the collective left forces prevailed. All of this under the sign of insanity, the main characters essential predicate.
