Este estudo propõe a análise das obras Ariel e Cérebro e Coração de Bolívar, dos escritores José Enrique Rodó, uruguaio, e Sílvio Júlio de Albuquerque Lima, brasileiro, respectivamente, sob os olhos da Teoria Literária e da Literatura Comparada. Em Ariel (1900), obra dedicada especialmente para os jovens estudantes e que teve papel preponderante na formação da nova intelectualidade latino-americana, em especial aquela de raiz hispânica, encontraremos as razões que levaram Rodó a preferir as contribuições européias àquelas proporcionadas pelo utilitarismo norte-americano; Em Cérebro e Coração de Bolívar (1931), encontraremos a história e a figura de Bolívar na busca de uma América coesa, fortalecida pela identidade de princípios e objetivos comuns.

This study has the propose to analyze the works Ariel and Cérebro e Coração de Bolívar, from the writers Jose Enrique Rodó, Uruguayan, and Sílvio Júlio de Albuquerque Lima, Brazil, respectively, under the eyes of Literary Theory and Comparative Literature. In Ariel (1900), a work dedicated especially for young students with a very important role in the formation of the new Latin American intellectuals, especially that of Hispanic roots, we will find the reasons that guided Rodó to prefer the European contributions to those provided by utilitarianism north American; in Cerebro e Coração de Bolivar (1931), we will find the story and the figure of Bolívar in the pursuit of an America united, strengthened by our common principles and common goals.
