O presente trabalho é um estudo das campanhas de escritura do romance Amar, verbo intransitivo, de Mário de Andrade. Este estudo focaliza a trajetória das versões do romance através da aproximação crítica entre as duas edições autorizadas pelo autor, a edi ção princeps (1927) e a ed ição definitiva (1944). Além disso, analisa-se o c onjunto das missivas em que M ário de A ndrade menciona a r ecepção de Amar, verbo intransitivo pela crítica de s eu tempo, bem como o t rabalho de elaboração e reescrita daquele que é s eu primeiro romance. No universo da c orrespondência, contemplam-se as contribuições aceitas e/ou debatidas pelo autor e por seus inúmeros correspondentes, dentre os quais se destaca Pio Lourenço Corrêa, intelectual da cidade de Araraquara e grande estudioso de línguas. Também são analisados os manuscritos de trabalho envolvidos na elaboração da e dição definitiva, através dos quais se pode observar as diferentes operações escriturais (supressões, rasuras, deslocamentos, etc.) processadas pelo autor. Através da c orrespondência de Mário de Andrade, este trabalho também expõe o debate acerca da tradução de Amar, verbo intransitivo para o inglês, feita por Margaret Richardson Hollingsworth e publicada em 1933.

The present work is a study about the Mário de Andrades novel Amar, Verbo Intransitivo. This novel has two different versions. The first one came out with a first edition in 1927 under influence of the Expressionism and Freud's theory of psychoanalysis. After the publication of this first edition, Mário de Andrade begins a process of rewriting it, making many modifications to the original version. Along years (1927-1944), this process considered the opinion of the many correspondents with whom Mário de A ndrade used to debate about its creative procedure, among them, Pio Lourenço Corrêa is an important example. The second version of Amar, verbo intransitivo came out in 1944 with its second edition which brought many textual differences with reference to the first one (1927). Thus, these differences are the main subject of this study which approached the circumstances of production and the critical reception of Amar, verbo intransitivo. Moreover, this study reveals the authors opinion about the translation of his novel, made by Margaret Richardson Hollingsworth and published in 1933. All of these aspects will be s tudied through Mário de Andrades correspondence and his manuscripts.
