Aiming to investigate the relationship between social process and literary form in Os Maias [The Maias], by Eça de Queirós, this work purpose is to analyze the affinities between the class composition represented in the novel (mainly in the clash concerning a resilient aristocracy and an ascendant bourgeoisie) and the theme of the incest, taking into account the concept of figuration as developed by Norbert Elias.
