Abstract in English
Within historiographical debates the United States and China are seen as primarily responsible for the genesis of the Brazilian discourse on Japan, however, this work is mainly aimed to show that France was also an important reference, especially between 1860 and 1945, construction image of Japanese in Brazil and of Brazilians themselves involving racial issues, immigration and national identity. In other words, the Brazilian elite appropriated the French discourse on Japan and adapted to local conveniences in order to create a discourse in favor of Brazil both in the national, and international levels.
