Abstract in English
This dissertation aims to understand the tensions between Post-structuralism and Marxism in the production of Norman Fairclough. Throughout the analysis of fundamental works of Fairclough's discursive theory, we found no constant regarding the position of the author on these two currents of thought; instead, we detected the construction of a tension that gradually moved towards the defense of a conciliation between Marxist and Post-structuralist assumptions. In this research, we discuss the centrality of the discursive instance in human sciences (as a result of Post-structuralist thinking) by establishing dialogues with Fairclough's work. In addition, we analyze the categories of ideology and power in Faircloughs production to identify moments of tension. The perspective we adopt throughout the analysis draws on Marxist critique (especially on the works of Fredric Jameson [1991], Terry Eagleton [1991], Alex Callinicos [1993] and Perry Anderson [1998]), although we also resort, to a lesser extent, to the works of François Lyotard (1979) and Michel Foucault (1976; 1994) in order to support the understanding of this debate.
