Abstract in English
The present research aims to study the production of black intellectuals in São Paulo between the years of 1915 and 1931. For this purpose, we used the set of Paulista newspapers made by blacks and focused on their issues, which was known as the Black Press. These journals were the main means of disseminating ideas and political articulation of the black movement of the period, in a process of mobilization that culminated in the founding of the Black Front in 1931, the largest racial-based brazilian entity of the 20th century until the founding of the Black Movement Unified, in 1978. From the texts produced by the writers of the 15 newspapers studied, we perceived the idea of an "alternative integrationism", through ideas such as "education", "union" and belonging to "brazilian nationality", showing the value of the "black race" as a strategy to combat racism. Between editorials and articles dealing with the conditions of the Negro, we have a number of literary texts published in these journals. Among them, we analyzed the novel A Boa Severina, by José de Nazareth, and dozens of poems by more than 15 authors, men and women. Both the literature and the articles allow us to perceive that, despite the internal differences, the discourse articulated in the newspapers formed a common basis of thought and collective organization, focused on the anti-racist militancy of the time.
