Abstract in Portuguese
Esta tese estuda algumas das relações entre o samba e o implemento da indústria cultural nos anos 1920/45. Na perspectiva adotada por este trabalho, agentes no processo de construção do moderno samba brasileiro, pois, entre outras coisas, alteraram o modo de produção e significados sociais dessa música. Assim, o samba deixava cada vez mais de ser uma música tradicional, para se tornar um produto da, assim chamada, indústria de diversões. Entretanto, o samba não foi apenas uma construção dos modernos meios de comunicação de massa. Houve vários interesses conjugados, abordados neste trabalho, que atuaram na sua elaboração. a possibilidade de profissionalização do músico popular, o rádio comercial em expansão (e em busca de novidades), o projeto nacionalista do governo Vargas etc., são alguns exemplos do envolvimento de boa parte da sociedade brasileira na criação do "samba nacional", um misto de tradição e modernidade.

Abstract in English
This work was aimed to study some relations between samba anda the implement of the cultural industry in Brazil from 1920 to 1945. It was focused that the mass media were important agents on the modern Brazilian samba development, althering both the social meaning and the production way. However, the Brazilian samba was not only a result of this entertaining industry. Many other interests influenced on its elaboration, such as the commercial radio expansion (and its search for news rhythms), the professionalization of popular musicians, togheter with Vargas nationalist project etc., were some evidences of the Brazilian society involviment with the national samba creation, which is a mixture of tradition and modernity.
