O objeto central desta dissertação é o jornal Versus, um dos principais periódicos da imprensa alternativa no Brasil, que circulou entre 1975 e 1979. Para compreender o seu nascimento, trajetória e as mudanças no projeto editorial, analiso o contexto latinoamericano da segunda metade de século XX. Esse período é fortemente marcado por uma ebulição social e uma onda de golpes militares no continente, que produziu um fluxo de exilados e de ideias. Nesta dissertação analisamos dois frutos desse processo o jornal Versus e a corrente trotskista Ponto de Partida, que surgiu no exílio chileno e depois assumiu vários outros nomes, tais como: Liga Operária, Partido Socialista dos Trabalhadores e Convergência Socialista. O enfoque é demonstrar o surgimento paralelo dos dois objetos que se encontram na conjuntura da abertura política brasileira e que partilharam do mesmo objetivo: a formação de um partido socialista de massas no Brasil. Busco demonstrar como a imprensa alternativa funcionou como espaço de aglutinação dos setores de oposição à ditadura militar. Argumento que o fim do regime militar também significou o fim desta imprensa não somente pela repressão, mas principalmente por conta da abertura política que esvaziou os elementos de sua sustentação social.

The main object of this dissertation is the journal Versus, one of the main publication of the alternative press in Brazil, that circulated between 1975 and 1979. To understand its birth, trajectory and changes in the editorial project, I analyze the Latin American context of the second half of the century XX. This period is marked by a social boom and a wave of military coups in the continent, which produced a flow of exiles and ideas. In this dissertation we analyze two fruits of this process: the journal Versus and the Trotskyist current Ponto de Partida, which emerged in Chilean exile and later assumed various other names, such as the Liga Operária, the Partido Socialista dos Trabalhadores and the Convergência Socialista. The focus is to demonstrate the parallel emergence of the two objects that are at the juncture of the Brazilian political opening and that shared the same objective: the formation of a socialist mass party in Brazil. I try to demonstrate how the alternative press functioned as a space of agglutination of the sectors of opposition to the military dictatorship. I argue that the end of the military regime also meant the end of this press, not only because of the repression, but mainly because of the political opening that emptied the elements of its social support.
