O trabalho O processo de urbanização na cidade de Parintins (AM): evolução e transformação teve como principal objetivo compreender o processo de produção, reprodução, apropriação e consumo do espaço urbano na cidade de Parintins/AM. O enfoque metodológico adotado na pesquisa é que a cidade é produto e condição para a reprodução da sociedade. Numa sociedade desigual a produção do urbano enquanto modo de vida será também desigual. A pesquisa pressupôs que se tivesse claro o que é a cidade e o papel desta na sociedade em que se vive. A operacionalização da pesquisa tomou por base os objetivos a partir dos quais foram levantadas questões e técnicas mais apropriadas para a obtenção das informações. Parintins experimentou um intenso crescimento urbano. A taxa de urbanização da cidade que até 1970 era de 43%, saltou para cerca de 68% em 2010. Esse crescimento decorreu do fluxo migratório de pessoas de outros Estados brasileiros, de municípios do Amazonas e de áreas rurais de Parintins. Com isso, a cidade cresceu de forma descontínua e sem planejamento. As pessoas sem acesso ao direito à cidade ocuparam a orla fluvial da cidade; depois surgiram as ocupações clandestinas; as ocupações periféricas com barracos e palafitas, tornando a forma de habitar insalubre, comprometendo a qualidade de vida de seus moradores; além da falta de serviços de consumo coletivo e de infraestrutura urbana capazes de atender a essa parcela da população. Como as demais cidades amazônicas, Parintins ostenta fortes contrastes socioambientais. Pode-se mencionar a existência de duas realidades não excludentes entre si: uma cidade formal oriunda de um processo formal regular de urbanização e a outra informal, produzida às margens de quaisquer mecanismos legais.

The work "The process of urbanization in the city of Parintins (AM): evolution and transformation" aimed to understand the process of production, reproduction, consumption and appropriation of urban space in the city of Parintins / AM. The methodological approach adopted in this study is that the city is a product and condition for the reproduction of society. In an unequal society where the production of the urban way of life will also be uneven. The research assumed that as if it was clear what the city and the role of the society in which one lives. The operationalization of the research was based on the objectives from which questions were raised and most appropriate techniques for obtaining information. Parintins experienced an intense urban growth. The rate of urbanization of the city until 1970 was 43% and jumped to about 68% in 2010. This growth was due to migration of people from other Brazilian state, municipalities of Amazon state and rural areas of Parintins . With this, the city grew discontinuously and without planning. People without the right access to the city occupied the river shores of the city, with illegal occupations outlying shacks and stilt, making unhealthy way of living, compromising the quality of life of its residents; besides the lack of public services for the collective and urban infrastructure able to meet the needs of the population. Like other Amazon cities, Parintins live strong environmental contrasts. It may be mentioned that there are two realities not mutually exclusive: a city formally deriving a formal process of urbanization and other regular "informal", produced on the banks of any legal mechanisms.
