O presente projeto de pesquisa refere-se à geografia do trabalho informal na cidade de São Paulo (SP). Com a sua realização busca-se observar quais são as perspectivas dos trabalhadores desse setor no que se refere à sua organização social na conquista por direitos e melhorias para as condições de trabalho. Neste sentido, a questão central da análise constitui-se em compreender como o fenômeno da informalidade presente no mundo contemporâneo se reflete em São Paulo. Parte-se da premissa de que a reestruturação da base técnica do capital e a adoção pelo Estado brasileiro dos princípios políticos neoliberais a partir da década de 1990 foram os principais processos da política econômica que contribuíram para a diminuição do número de vagas no mercado de trabalho no Brasil. Diante disso, verificou-se um aumento significativo dos trabalhadores presentes no mercado informal da economia brasileira e por consequência, na cidade de São Paulo. Com o desenvolvimento da pesquisa, salientam-se as características da informalidade em São Paulo, tendo como objeto de estudo, os comerciantes ambulantes/informais presentes na cidade.

The research project refers to the geography of informal work in the historical centre of the city São Paulo (SP). Therefore for the purpose, it is sought to observe the perspectives of the workers of this sector with regard to their social organization in the conquest by rights and improvements to the working conditions. While in this sense, the central question of analysis is to understand how the phenomenon of informality present in the contemporary world is reflected in São Paulo. It is based on the premise that the restructuring of the technical capital base and the adoption by the Brazilian State of neoliberal political principles from the 1990s were the main economic policy processes that contributed to the decrease in the number of jobs in the labor market in Brazil. Therefore, there was a significant increase of the workers present in the informal market of the Brazilian economy and, consequently, in the city of São Paulo. The development of the research, the characteristics of informality in São Paulo are highlighted, having as object of study the street / informal merchants present in the city.
