Nossa dissertação trata do fenômeno do regionalismo bancário e busca entender as relações específicas que se desenvolvem entre os bancos regionais e o território onde atuam. Nesse sentido, procuramos pensar as finanças e o funcionamento de um banco a partir das noções de contiguidade, proximidade espacial e solidariedades geográficas. O objetivo central da pesquisa foi realizar um estudo sobre o fenômeno do regionalismo bancário no território brasileiro a partir do sistema de bancos públicos estaduais tendo como recorte empírico principal o Banco do Estado do Espírito Santo (Banestes), com o intuito de identificar as especificidades de um banco público regional em relação aos grandes bancos de abrangência nacional (e internacional). Verificou-se que o banco regional (estadual), por ter sua sede localizada na própria região de atuação, por ter uma divisão territorial do trabalho espacialmente limitada e por estar vinculado ao sistema de ação estatal, possui características singulares quando comparado às grandes redes bancárias de alcance nacional.

The theme of the dissertation is the relationship between territory and finance. More precisely, the dissertation deals with the phenomenon of banking regionalism, which involves specific relationships between regional banks and (regional) territory; in this sense, the horizon of reflection from which we started was to think about the finances and the functioning of a bank from the notions of contiguity, spatial proximity and geographical solidarities. The main objective of the research was to carry out a study on the phenomenon of banking regionalism in the Brazilian territory from the system of state public banks, with the Bank of the State of Espírito Santo (Banestes) as its main empirical cut, in order to identify the specificities of a regional public bank in comparison to the large national and international banks. Our main result is that the regional (state) bank, because it has its headquarters located in its own region, because it has a spatially limited territorial division of labor and because its linked to the state action system, has singular characteristics when compared to the large networks national banking systems.
