A dissertação teve como principal questão a discussão acerca das abordagens das periferias urbanas no processo de metropolização de São Paulo, discutindo os pressupostos da literatura sobre o tema desta divisão intra-urbana a partir das idéias de marginalização e exclusão sócio-espacial. Procuramos problematizar a divisão entre centro e periferia urbana a partir da crítica às abordagens que privilegiavam estas análises a partir da centralidade das categorias de luta de classes, dos espaços periféricos como lócus do exército industrial de reserva e da hegemonia do capital produtivo. A pesquisa procura repensar a questão da divisão da metrópole no atual momento de reprodução crítica do capitalismo que marca uma mudança qualitativa de entendimento dos espaços considerados periféricos para além da materialidade e da visão geométrica da divisão centro periferia. Discutimos a perda de potência da idéia de espaços excluídos a partir da premissa de um processo de socialização negativa das populações pauperizadas, neste momento de crise dos fundamentos do trabalho, aliada à nova estrutura da reprodução do capital, baseada na financeirização e na ficcionalização. Deste modo através da generalização do crédito e do consumo para estas populações, buscamos um caminho possível para pensar a própria destituição da relação centro-periferia na metrópole de São Paulo.

This dissertation was mainly focused on the discussion of the approaches regarding the urban peripheries in São Paulos metropolization process, discussing the assumptions in literature on the subject of this intra-urban division based on the ideas of marginalization and socio-spatial exclusion. We have tried to problematize the division between urban center and periphery by criticizing the aproaches that privileged these analysis from the centrality of the class struggle categories, peripheral areas as the locus of the industrial reserve army and the hegemony of productive capital. The research aims at rethinking the division of the metropolis at a time of critic capitalist reproduction, which marks a qualitative change in the understanding of peripheric spaces, going beyond the materiality and the geometric vision of the center-periphery division. We discuss the loss of strenght of the idea of excluded spaces from the assumption that there is a process of negative socialization of impoverished populations in this moment of crisis of the foundations of work, coupled with the new structure of capital reproduction, based on financialization and fictionalization. Thus, through the widespread use of credit among these populations and through the consumption, we sought a possible way to think the destitution of the center-periphery relation in the metropolis of São Paulo.
