Abstract in English
Due to the late colonization in the territory comprising the western central region of Parana, the processes of occupation with the different types of use and consecutive changes in the landscape have been accelerated. The intensive use of land for agricultural purposes has made the landscape, especially the coverage, more vulnerable to the actions of elements and weather phenomena (rainfall and and thermal action of ENSO). The relevance of the research is justified by the profound transformation of the landscape and the shape of human occupation and economic exploitation of the land, the geomorphological and petrological structure made it suitable to intensive use of mechanization, generating a range of socioeconomic and environmental impacts on the landscape. What, however, reaches deeper into the region is the fact that it is primarily agricultural, has the highest proportion of its economic activities concentrated in this sector and is vulnerable to climatic phenomena. The purpose of this research is to show and analyze the organizational structure of the landscape under the influence of weather phenomena in agricultural areas, considering the socioeconomic and ecological context of the region and its structure divided into landscape units, to, from there, investigate natural weaknesses and incompatibilities in land use. The research consists ultimately in producing an essential input for planning and regional management, necessary and useful to the three spheres of government. Considering the context, the present study focused the investigation of the hypothesis that the ENSO influence on the (re)organization of the landscape, especially in agriculture, being accountable for the drop in productivity, thus generating social and environmental impacts. For this research, the variables temperature and precipitation were first raised from a series of meteorological data collected over 22 years at ECPCM/INMET (traditional surface station). This data has been cross analyzed with data from major crops and action of El Niño and La Niña, obtaining general results that corroborate the hypothesis presented. Because of its extent and to make the phenomena investigation viable, the area was divided into landscape units, which were analyzed on its peculiarities taking as a base data from historical series from IAPAR, cooperatives and individuals plus the data cited above. The samples were checked by means of standard equipment installed in farms of the UPs in 2008. From the analysis of historical records of rainfall and themperature was assumed that although in the analysis of means of production from the region the influence of ENSO presentation is not so pronounced for all crops it exists. La Nina, with its prolonged droughts has been causing losses in commercial summer crops, livestock and even in the water landscape. When successive (occurrence of years in a row) the following years experience significant crop losses on fall / winter. The results suggest that the development of projects to find alternatives for small farmers and public policies of intervention in the intensive use of the land and direction of the types of land use is in order.
