It analyzes the evolution of Brazilian foreign policy for the continent, from its initial formulation by the Itamaraty in the 1960s, to the present time, characterized by the ambivalent government actions of the Fernando Henrique Cardoso and Luis Inácio Lula da Silva presidencies. The aim is to contribute to a better understanding of the country's relations and international commerce, clarifying the formulation and execution process of Brazilian foreign policy towards Africa: its political and commercial significance for the country's insertion in the international scene.
