Introdução: o aumento da expectativa de vida no Brasil e no mundo, com destaque para o gênero feminino, reflete a necessidade de estudos que se dediquem a investigar o cuidado à mulher idosa pelo enfermeiro, considerando a perspectiva dos sujeitos envolvidos nessa relação de cuidado. Objetivo: compreender o cuidado à saúde na perspectiva das mulheres idosas e dos enfermeiros. Metodologia: estudo fundamentado na Fenomenologia Social de Alfred Schütz realizado no município de Cascavel, Paraná-Brasil, em nove Unidades de Saúde, sendo sete Unidades Básicas e duas pertencentes à Estratégia Saúde da Família. Participaram dez enfermeiros que atuam no cuidado à saúde das mulheres idosas e oito idosas cuidadas por enfermeiros. Os depoimentos foram obtidos no período de setembro de 2010 a janeiro de 2011 por meio de entrevista aberta, com as seguintes questões norteadoras para as mulheres idosas: conte para mim sobre as suas necessidades de cuidado à saúde neste momento de sua vida. Como é para a senhora ser cuidada pelo(a) enfermeiro(a). O que a senhora espera em relação ao cuidado à saúde? Para os enfermeiros: como você percebe as necessidades de cuidado à saúde da mulher idosa? Como você cuida dessa mulher? O que você espera de suas ações de cuidado à saúde a esse tipo de clientela? Resultados: as idosas referem necessidades físicas e psicossociais de cuidado, requerem atenção, competência técnica e comprometimento no cuidado e esperam acolhimento por parte do enfermeiro e dos serviços de saúde. Os enfermeiros identificam especificidades relacionadas ao envelhecimento no cuidado à mulher idosa; valorizam a participação da família como mediadora do cuidado e apresentam limites relacionados ao serviço no que tange à ausência de protocolos que direcionem a assistência a essa clientela. Esperam realizar um cuidado qualificado à idosa, alicerçado em uma formação profissional direcionada para o atendimento a essa clientela. Conclusão: evidenciou-se que a compreensão do cuidado à saúde se baseia predominantemente em relações de reciprocidade entre o enfermeiro aquele que cuida e a mulher idosa a pessoa cuidada. Espera-se que o presente estudo possibilite reflexões e ações no âmbito assistencial, no ensino e na pesquisa no que tange à saúde da pessoa idosa na situação de cuidado pelo enfermeiro. Essas devem vir ancoradas nas perspectivas de ampliação do conhecimento nesses campos, com vistas a aproximações entre o cuidado esperado pela mulher idosa e o realizado pelo enfermeiro no cotidiano dos serviços de saúde.

Introduction: the increase in expectation of life in Brazil and in the world, focusing the female genre, reflects the necessity of studies that look forward to investigate the care to the elderly woman by the nurse, taking into consideration the perspective from the people evolved in this relation of care. Objective: to understand the health care in the perspective of the elderly women and the nurses. Methodology: study based in the Social Phenomenological from Alfred Schütz. It was achieved in the city of Cascavel, Paraná-Brazil in nine primary care group, being seven basic units and two which work in the health family strategy. In this research there were ten nurses who worked in elderly women health care and eight elderly women taken care by nurses. The interviews were obtained from September of 2010 to January of 2011 by means of open interview, with the questions guided for the elderly women: tell me about your necessities of health care in this moment of your life. How do you feel like being cared by the nurse? What do you expect concerning the health care? Questions done to the nurses: How do you feel the necessities of the elderly woman health care? How do you care about this woman? What do you expect about your care concerning the health to this kind of clientele? Results: the elderly women say about physical necessities and psychosocial care, attention need, technical competence and commitment in the care and look forward for affective care by the nurse and health services. The nurses identify the peculiarities related in the care of elderly woman; make it important the participation of the family as a care mediator and show limits related in the services concerning the lack of protocols that guide the assistance of this clientele. It is expected to achieve a qualified care to the elderly woman founded in professional basis focused for the assistance to these people. Conclusion: it became evident that the comprehension in the health care is based predominantly in the interaction between the nurse- the one who cares and the elderly women- the one who is cared. This study makes possible reflections and actions in the assistance, in the formation and in the research concerning the elderly womans health in the situation of care by the nurse. These must be anchored in the perspectives of growth in knowledge in these fields, targeting the approach between the care expected by the elderly women and the achieved by the nurse in the day- by- day in the health services.
