Abstract in English
Currently techniques employing isotopic tracers have proved to be very useful tools. The isotope 13C has applications in different areas, with emphasis on agronomic area, animal nutrition, environmental and medical area. The methodological advances of the isotopic analysis and optimization of the mass spectrometers, made possible the expansion of the use of 13C. Nevertheless, to obtain isotopically enriched compounds, import is necessary, making its acquisition costly. Aiming at the production of 13C-labeled compounds in the country, the main objective of the work is to promote the separation of the stable isotopes of C (12C and 13C), using the ion exchange chromatographic method in a cascade system and produce 13CO. Two individual column systems named S1 and S2 were used, the S1 system consisting of six acrylic columns 180 cm length and 7 cm internal diameter, and the S2 system consisting of six acrylic columns 180 cm length and 5 cm internal diameter, both systems filled with Dowex 1X8 anionic resin (100-200 mesh). Initially with the resin the R-OH- form, an HCO3- band was formed, which was eluted with HCl solution. After the band traveled over certain distances, analyzes were performed to evaluate the isotopic abundance of 13C. The enrichment systems were evaluated individually and also after the coupling, with the mass transfer of 13C from the S1 to S2 system. In addition to the enrichment of 13C, the following parameters were studied: regeneration of the anionic resin (R-Cl- form to R-OH-); determination of the height equivalent of theoretical plates; fractionation factor; obtaining 13CO2 and 13CO. In the individual system S1 the maximum enrichment was 7.69% in 13C atoms, while in S2 the enrichment was 7.20% in 13C atoms. After the interaction between the systems, an accumulated mass of 0.79 g of 13C and 167,47g of H213CO3 was obtained in the S2 system. The required volume of regenerant was 90 and 40 liters for S1 and S2 respectively. The height equivalent of theoretical plate was 0.25 cm and the fractionation factor was 1.0048. Conversion of NaH313CO3 to 13CO2 had a yield of 98.70%. The proposed methodology to obtain 13CO did not present satisfactory results, and it was suggested the study of new methodologies to obtain 13CO in future works
