Abstract in English
The aim this study was to decribe and analyse a women population according to socio-economic caracteristics, awareness to health, search for health care, experiences when using the health care system and believes and attitudes related to the health prevention practice. The population of this corss-section study were formed by 654 women aged 10-65 year old, from a selected area in Londrina, Paraná, Brazil. Accepting that both the object of the Epidemiology covers the individuais who look for the health service belonging to the real demand and the needs of those that form the repressed demand and do not have acess to the service due to multiple factors, the use of their knowledge was then considered as one of the scientific basics for the diagnosis in population health and used during the first phase of the study. The acess to the subjective information as perceptions, beliefs and values, which together with the biologic and socio-economic variables constitute the condition of being sick or health among the individuais or populations, found subsidies for its analisys from the methods and thecniques proposed by the Social Cognition Theory, used in the second fase of the study. According to the results of the first fase, the family income was the unique determinant factor for the search for preventive care. However, the second phase's data showed that the women's believess and attitudes in health were similar, independently of the family income. Despite of this fact, the family income arised as a real barrier in the process of searching for care, determining inequalities in health.
