Esta pesquisa teve como proposição verificar, por meio de um estudo epidemiológico, a distribuição do potencial hidrogeniônico da placa e de possíveis variáveis que o influenciam, em escolares de 14 anos, do sexo masculino. Foram coletadas informações sobre o potencial hidrogeniônico da placa em repouso e aos 5 e 20 minutos após um bochecho com solucão de sacarose a 10 por cento , a ingestão usual de alimentos, o índice de placa, os índices de cárie, as práticas preventivas relacionadas à saúde bucal e a ocupaçao e o nível educacional dos pais, ou responsáveis, dos escolares. Analisados os dados, pôde-se verificar que nas condições deste estudo não se observaram associações que permitissem detectar influências das variáveis estudadas em relação ao potencial hidrogeniônico da placa dentária.

This research has the purpose of investigating through an epidemiological study, the distribution of the hydrogenionic potential of the Plaque and the possibles variables which influence them in 14-year old schoolboys. Data on the hydrogenionic potential of the plaque were collected at rest and five and twenty minutes after having rinsed the mouth with a saccharose solution at 10 per cent . Data were also collected about usual ingestion of food, plaque rate, caries rates, preventive practices related to Buccal health, occupation and educational level of parents or adults responsible for the schoolboys. The analysis of the data made it evident that under the conditions of this study, no associations were observed that would allow for the detection of influences of the variables investigated in relation to the hydrogenionic potential of the dental plaque.
