O autor apresenta a análise dos dados relativos às atividades de luta antituberculose realizadas pela FSESP em Penedo, Alagoas, durante o período de 1970 a 1976. Tece comentários sobre a tuberculose como grave problema de saúde pública e apesar métodos conhecidos e bastante eficazes de controle, ainda é grande a incidência dessa doença em nosso meio. Isto foi visto na 3a. Região de Saúde de Alagoas, onde estudou e descreveu aspectos da situação fisiográfica e socio-economica. Analisa os diferentes aspectos epidemiológicos da doença naquela Região e as atividades integradas, que são ali desenvolvidas, pela Unidade de Saúde local, com utilização de recursos disponíveis, locais e regionais, ainda insuficientes. Por essa razão, sugere apos análise, maior trabalho na educação da saúde do povo, com serviços polivalentes e ajuda governamental, para o efetivo controle da tuberculose.

The author presents the analysis of the activities against tuberculosis realized by FSESP (Founation Service of Public llealth) in Penedo, Alagoas, Brazil, during the period of 1970 to 1976. He decrihes and comments about tuberculosis as a serious problem of public health. Even though the knowledge of efficient methods of control, is still great the incidence of that disease. This is seen in that 3rd Region of Health of Alagoas, where he studied and described some physiografical and socio-economical aspects. He analyzes different epidemiological aspects of the disease in that region and the integrated activities that are developed by the Unit to Health located over there, using the local and regional desposable resources, still insufficient. On that account he suggests, after analysis, most work in the health education of the peoples, with polyvalent services and government helping, in order to realize the effective control of tuberculosis.
