Abstract in English
This review was concerned with 16 years of published data on the biology of Toxoplasma gondii, as well as the diagnosis and epidemiology of toxoplasmosis. Considering the biology of this protozoan, we have been gathered some observations and conclusions on the nomenclature of its different unfective forms, its vital cycle and its resistance, in natural and experimental conditions. Regarding the diagnosis of toxoplasmosis, the author has revised the most important papers concerning the laboratorial methods employed, giving special emphasis to the interpretation of the immunological trials usually carried out. In the epidemiological study of this zoonosis, strenght has been given to the prevalence of toxoplasmosis among animals and to their part in transmiting the disease to man. We have also commented on the epidemiologic cycle of the agent and the transmission of this anthropozoonosis, its significance in public health, and the profilatic precautions have already been proposed.
