Artrite reumatoide e uma enfermidade considerada grave, que influencia a qualidade de vida, caracterizada pelos sinais e sintomas como febre, mal-estar, fraqueza, dor, edema, calor, vermelhidão em qualquer articulação do organismo, rigidez matinal, fadiga, limitação de movimentos e destruição da cartilagem articular. Este estudo tem como objetivo analisar a mobilidade mandibular, espessura dos músculos masseteres e temporais, forca de mordida molar máxima e a qualidade de vida de mulheres com artrite reumatoide. Participaram vinte e oito mulheres, com idade entre 40 e 70 anos que foram distribuídas em dois Grupos: com artrite reumatoide (media +/- DP 52,20+/-3,00 anos, GAR, 14 mulheres) e sem a doença (media +/- DP 49,40 +/- 2,40 anos, GS, 14 mulheres). A amplitude (mm) de movimento mandibular foi avaliada pelo paquímetro digital, nas condições de abertura máxima voluntaria da boca e movimentos bordejantes mandibulares: lateralidade direita, lateralidade esquerda e protrusão. A espessura muscular (cm) foi mensurada pela imagem obtida do ultrassom SonoSite NanoMaxx nas condições de repouso e apertamento dental em contração voluntaria máxima. O dinamômetro digital Kratos foi utilizado para avaliar a forca de mordida molar máxima (Kgf) direita e esquerda. A qualidade de vida foi observada pela utilização do questionário OHIP-14Br. Os dados de amplitude de movimento mandibular, espessura muscular, forca de mordida molar e qualidade de vida foram tabulados e submetidos a analise estatística (SPSS 21.0, teste t de student, p ≤ 0,05). Foi encontrada diferença estatística significante entre GAR e GS para forca de mordida molar máxima direita (p = 0,03) e condição de saúde bucal para qualidade de vida (p= 0,00), dimensões: física (p = 0,00), psicológica (p = 0,00) e social (p = 0,00). Portanto, os resultados deste estudo sugere que a artrite reumatoide em mulheres diminuiu a forca de mordida molar máxima e mostrou impacto negativo na qualidade de vida em relação as condições bucais de mulheres

Rheumatoid arthritis is a disease considered to be severe, which affects quality of life, characterized by signs and symptoms such as fever, malaise, weakness, pain, edema, heat, redness in any joint of the body, morning stiffness, fatigue, movement limitation and destruction of joint cartilage. This study aims to analyze the mandibular mobility, thickness of the masseter and temporal muscles, bite force and the quality of life of women with rheumatoid arthritis. Twenty-eight women, aged between 40 and 70 years old, were divided into two groups: rheumatoid arthritis (mean age 52.20 +/- 3.00 years, GAR, 14 women) and healthy group (mean age 49.40 +/- 2.40 years, GS, 14 women). The mandibular mobility (mm) was evaluated with digital caliper, under the conditions of maximum mouth opening, right lateral excursion, left lateral excursion and protrusion. The muscular thickness (cm) was measured by the image obtained from the SonoSite NanoMaxx ultrasound in the conditions of mandibular rest and dental clenching in maximum voluntary contraction. The Kratos digital dynamometer was used to evaluate the maximum molar bite force (Kgf) in the right and left sides. The analysis of oral health conditions in quality of life was observed using the OHIP-14Br questionnaire. The data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS version 21.0, IBM®) and were then compared by students t-test, p ≤ 0.05). Significant statistical difference was found between GAR and GS for maximum molar bite force in the right side (p=0.03) and for oral health condition for quality of life (p=0.00), in the physical dimensions (p=0.00), psychological (p=0.00) and social (p=0.00). Therefore, the results of this study suggest that there was a reduction in maximal molar bite strength of women with rheumatoid arthritis as well as a negative impact of oral health conditions on quality of life in these women
