Abstract in English
The aim of this study was to comparatively assess the setting time (ST) of Endofill®, AH Plus®, Sealer 26®, RoekoSeal Automix®, EndoRez Sealer®, MTA Fillapex®, Ketac Endo®, and Endosequence BC Sealer® sealers using the tests advocated by the American National Standard Institute/American Dental Association specification no. 57 (ANSI/ADA, 2012), a modified test by CARVALHO-JÚNIOR et al. (2007) (CJ), and ultrasound (US). Metallic casts (10mm 2 mm) were filled with the above-mentioned sealers and tested with a Gillmore needle (100 g) every 60 seconds until there were no markings on the surface. For the ANSI/ADA (2012) modified test CJ, metallic casts (5mm 2 mm) were used and tested as advocated by the ANSI/ADA (2012). For tests using US (Panametrics, USA), a transducer conveying a 1-MHz wave and an oscilloscope for elasticity and density imaging were used for every sample, and indicated the setting time for each tested sealer. AH Plus®, Sealer 26®, Endofill®, MTA Fillapex®, Endosequence BC Sealer®, EndoRez® and Ketac-Endo® sealers showed significantly longer setting times (p<0.05) when assessed by US compared to the ANSI/ADA (2012) and CJ methods. The ST for Endosequence BC Sealer® and EndoRez® was significantly different between ANSI/ADA (2012) and CJ (p<0.05). When comparing the US ST to the time informed by the manufacturer, the AH Plus®, Sealer 26®, Endofill®, EndoRez®, and MTA Fillapex® sealers showed significantly longer times at the US analysis. In conclusion, ultrasound evaluations resulted in longer setting times for the tested sealers, when assessed compared to the ANSI/ADA (2012) and CJ methods, except for MTA Fillapex® and EndoRez®. The US provides information on the setting time of the entire material, not only the surface
