Este trabalho discute tópicos fundamentais relacionados com a conceituação básica sobre sistemas computacionais distribuídos, redes locais e servidores de impressão, destacando-se protocolos de comunicação e formas de implementação dos servidores de impressão. Uma arquitetura para servidores de impressão operando em sistemas computacionais distribuídos baseados em rede local é apresentada. A organização proposta e implementada apresenta vantagens em relação a outras existentes, principalmente em termos de portabilidade do software, permitindo atendimento a uma comunidade de usuários diversificada.

This work discusses fundamental concepts related to distributed computing systems based on local area networks and printer servers. Communication protocols and approaches for printer server implementation are discussed in great detail. An architecture for LAN-based printer servers is presented. The system proposed and implemented has advantages over other existing systems, mainly in terms of software portability, allowing easy instalations in different environments and, therefore, extending the service to a greater user community.
