Abstract in English
The objective of this work was to synthetize and characterize phases derived from Ca2Fe205 by parcial substitution of Fe3+ ions by Nb5+ , leading to compositions like Ca2 Fe 2-xNbxO5+x. The synthesis was carried out in solid state at temperatures ranging from 1000°C to 1300°C, after mixing the reactants and powdering them to very fine particles. The reactions products were characterized by x-ray diffraction by polycrystalline samples, infra-red spectroscopy, differential thermal analysis and eletron paramagnetic resonance. The substitution of Nb5+ occurs in a disordered way is sites of octahedric coordination. The Ca2Fe2O5 is an orthorrombic phase. In samples with the composition Ca2Fe2-xNbxO5+x, for x≤0,15 an orthorrombic phase is observed for temperatures smaller than 1000°C. For higher temperatures two phases are observed: orthorrombic and cubic. The cubic phase is the only one appear ing when 0,45≤x≤1 for temperature above 1300°C. The Ca2Fe2O5 is antiferromagnetic and the introduction of Nb5+ , diamagnetic, has a dilution effect over the para magnetic cations, which allowed the study of this samples by EPR.
