INTRODUÇÃO: A gagueira é um transtorno do neurodesenvolvimento caracterizada por rupturas involuntárias no fluxo de fala. O tratamento para a gagueira do desenvolvimento está disponível há décadas, porém poucos programas de tratamento são efetivamente descritos. O objetivo do estudo foi verificar a eficácia dos programas terapêuticos para gagueira infantil. MÉTODOS: Os participantes do estudo foram 93 crianças que gaguejam (66 do sexo masculino e 27 do feminino), com idades entre 2 e 12 anos (idade média de 6,5 anos). O estudo comparou os resultados pré e pós-tratamento para porcentagem de rupturas gagas, perfil da fluência e SSI-3. Os resultados da porcentagem de rupturas gagas foram comparados através de medidas de eficácia e os resultados do perfil da fluência e do SSI-3 foram comparados através de análises descritivas e inferenciais. RESULTADOS: Houve diferença significativa (p < 0,001) para alguns itens do perfil da fluência (porcentagem de rupturas gagas, quantidade de rupturas gagas e descontinuidade de fala). Houve diferença significativa (p < 0,001) para todos os escores do SSI-3 (frequência de rupturas, duração das rupturas, concomitantes físicos). CONCLUSÕES: Os programas terapêuticos mostraram-se efetivos no tratamento da gagueira infantil, visto que os participantes apresentaram redução na porcentagem de rupturas gagas e nos escores do SSI-3

INTRODUCTION: Stuttering is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by involuntary disruptions in speech fluency. Stuttering treatment for children has been available for decades, but few treatment programs are effectively described. The purpose of this study was to verify the efficacy of treatment programs for childhood stuttering. METHODS: Participants were 93 children who stutter (66 male and 27 female), aged between 2 and 12 years (mean age 6,5 years). The results of the percentage of the stuttered syllables were compared according to efficacy measures. The fluency profile and SSI-3 data were compared using descriptive and inferential analyzes. RESULTS: There was a significant difference (p < 0,001) for some items of the fluency profile (percentage of stuttered syllables, number of stuttered syllables and percentage of speech disruption). There was a significant difference (p < 0,001) for all scores of the SSI-3 (frequency, duration and physical concomitants). CONCLUSIONS: The treatment programs were effective, since the participants presented reduction in the percentage of stuttered syllables and in the scores of SSI-3
