Abstract in English
Teaching children with disabilities in regular school is a legal provision; however, the obligation to register these children does not guarantee access to the educational means. Such process has had many theoretical progresses. Nevertheless, in practice, the inclusion process is still conflictual, and movements that confirm attitudes of prejudice that maintain exclusion networks are frequently observable, so that these children still do not participate effectively in all school activities. The aim of this study is to discuss the strategies used by primary school teachers for the inclusion of children with disabilities in regular school, based on interviews carried out at public schools from the West region of the city of São Paulo. The proposal of having an Occupational Therapist to know the strategies used by teachers is based on the need for interlocution, for recognition of the knowledge of someone who, in his daily practice, has contact with the students in a heterogeneous classroom. Communication with the teacher and his reality helps us to widen our look, which frequently is restricted to the exclusive perception of the child. This vision can only be overcome if we allow ourselves to circulate in this interface area between health and education. A few teachers, with at least one year of experience working with inclusion, and other school community agents, such as a pedagogic coordinator and a representative from the Center of Training and Monitoring for the Inclusion (CEFAI) of the Butantã region, participated in the study. Data were gathered in two meetings: first, the teachers were interviewed individually, and then collectively. The collective interview was carried out with seven out of 11 teachers. Analysis of the interviews pointed out the following themes: hierarchy in the educational system and the imposition of programs; teachers senses and imaginary regarding deficiency; teachers angst about work with inclusion of students with deficiencies; use of differential pedagogic strategies; constitution of a support network at the school; working with the students families; teachers training and their accomplishments in the realization/development of the inclusion process. It was noticed a speech focused on the childs disability, showing a difficulty in viewing the students with learning potential, and use of few differential pedagogic strategies. Some initial strategies used in classroom were noted, such as pairing students and adapting some materials, but theyre still not enough. Nevertheless, it was clear the difference in the quality of the work when teachers have a support network, including a pedagogic coordinator and a support and monitoring classroom for the inclusion at school (SAAI).
