Keywords in Portuguese
Agente comunitário de saúde
Atenção primária à saúde

Programa de Saúde da Família
Satisfação no emprego

Abstract in English
The Family Health Program (FHP) emerged in Brazil as a strategy of Primary Health Care reorientation with the main action focused on the Community Health Agent. It is a qualitative research using open-ended interviews with 15 CHA of two Family Health Units, Jardim Robrú and Jardim Campos, situated at East Side of São Paulo city, which objective was to analyze the position and the meaning of being CHA in the passage of life of these professionals. After assuming their function, the CHAs experienced significant changes in their lives, marked by opposed conditions: the loss of their privacy and the popularity acquisition; and profit of professional identity in detriment of personal identity. The findings indicate that the Community Health Agents experienced deeply a delimitation difficulty of their tasks in practice, even their attributions are defined by law. In addition, dissatisfaction factors also contribute to lead CHA to seek for other work opportunities. These agents reveal no intention to continue in their function for longer time, as they wish to continue their studies, both in the health area or in other social one, being the activity a way for social and professional ascension and subsistence guarantee.
