Abstract in English
The objective of this research is to study the spheres of influence in the implementation of curricular alterations resulting from factors that compose the current national and international scenery, besides the orientations of the National Curricular Guidelines for Graduate Courses in Odontology for the curriculums of the Faculties of Odontology of the Public Universities of the State of São Paulo. New approaches regarding the profile of the future professional, among other orientations, emphasize the formation of a generalist and humanist professional who should be able to act in all levels of health care, grounded on technical and scientific excellence. The purpose of this research is to study the already implemented alterations in these units as a consequence of legal determinations and advances in science and technology, and their implications in the international and institutional spheres of influence of the educational practices. The methodology of this research included qualitative data and documental analyses found in the literature review, as well as statements made by professionals. Besides the approach of historical aspects concerning the evolution of the courses and faculties, the number of candidates in the selective process for Odontology and Medicine in the period from 1995 to 2008 was analyzed, with the elaboration of graphs for comparison, and the current curriculums of the Faculties of Odontology of the Public University of the State of São Paulo were studied. Based on the information analyzed, the final considerations point to the need of a pedagogical formation of the professor of odontology, showing that his participation is essential for the effective implementation of the proposed alterations in order to produce the desired result in the professional formation. The analysis of the curriculums showed that in the Public Faculties of Odontology of the State of São Paulo, innovative tendencies have already been implemented. However, continuous revaluation is required so as to correct eventual disarrangements that could enable the existence of a hidden curriculum discordant from that stated in the legal documents.
