Este trabalho tem como foco central a produção científica brasileira em etnomatemática, recente campo de estudos caracterizado pela tentativa de compreender as relações existentes entre cultura, matemática e educação matemática. Constitui-se de uma tentativa de análise das dissertações e teses produzidas nessa área, levando-se em conta suas particularidades e o seu desenvolvimento em contexto brasileiro. Trata-se de uma investigação com características próximas aos trabalhos denominados estados da arte, que procurou identificar as principais temáticas abordadas, suas perspectivas, convergências e distanciamentos. Para alcançar os objetivos propostos, utilizou-se como procedimento metodológico os pressupostos da abordagem qualitativa em educação, e as técnicas sugeridas pela análise de conteúdo. A fim de contextualizar sócio-historicamente esta produção, desenvolve-se uma análise dos antecedentes dessa área de pesquisa no Brasil, a partir do desenvolvimento histórico da pesquisa educacional brasileira e da produção em educação matemática, dando maior ênfase aos acontecimentos e fatos das décadas de 70 e 80. A configuração resultante estado da arte da etnomatemática baseou-se na leitura de 64 resumos, inicialmente identificados como estudos em etnomatemática, na análise das respostas enviadas a um questionário, elaboradas por 38 pesquisadores-autores envolvidos com a etnomatemática, e na análise de uma amostra de 33 trabalhos. Em anexo, apresentamos a relação das teses e dissertações estudadas e seus respectivos resumos.

This dissertation focuses mainly on the Brazilian scientific production in ethnomathematics, a newly established field of study characterized by the attempt of understanding the relationship between culture, mathematics and mathematical education. This is therefore an attempt to analyze the dissertations and theses produced in this area, taking into account their singularities and their development in the Brazilian context. It is an investigation with characteristics close to the works referred to as state of the art, which sought to identify the main themes dealt with, their perspectives, convergences and distances. In order to achieve the objectives proposed, the methodology utilized was the assumptions of qualitative approach in education and the techniques suggested by analysis of contents. To contextualize such production on social and historical basis, it analyzes the background of this field of investigation in Brazil, as it historically developed from the Brazilian educational research as well as from mathematical education, highlighting the events taking place in the 1970´s and 80´s. The resulting outcome state of the art in ethnomathematics was based on the reading of 64 abstracts, initially identified as studies in ethnomathematics, on the analysis of the responses sent to a questionnaire, prepared by 38 author-researchers involved with ethnomathematics, and on the analysis of a sample with 33 works.
