A presente pesquisa teve como objeto de investigação livros de literatura infantil que apresentam personagens protagonistas negros, presentes na biblioteca escolar de uma escola municipal de educação infantil (EMEI) da cidade de São Paulo, cujo acervo é composto por livros enviados pelo programa de compras da Prefeitura do Município de São Paulo e pelo Programa Nacional Biblioteca da Escola (PNBE). A pesquisa foi realizada em três etapas: (1) levantamento e análise das listagens e dos livros selecionados e enviados pelo PNBE às escolas brasileiras de educação infantil nos anos de 2008 e 2010; (2) levantamento e exame de todas as obras pertencentes ao acervo da EMEI; (3) leitura de cada uma destas obras e análise do grupo de livros com personagens negros. O aporte teórico utilizado diz respeito à literatura, à literatura infantil, a estudos referentes ao negro e a sua representação. Após análise das listagens e dos livros do PNBE, concluiu-se que (1) entre os anos de 2008 e 2010 este programa enviou às escolas de educação infantil quatro obras que apresentam personagens negros como protagonistas. No acervo da EMEI, dentre os 1500 livros de literatura infantil, foram encontradas 33 obras com protagonistas negros; (2) considerando a diminuta quantidade de obras com protagonistas negros encontradas durante esta pesquisa, concluiu-se que esses personagens estão sub-representados tanto no acervo da EMEI, como no programa PNBE (3) algumas obras do acervo apresentam estereótipos em relação ao personagem negro e alguns elementos implícitos e explícitos de preconceito. O estudo verificou também que diversos livros do acervo valorizam elementos da corporeidade e estética negra, além de aspectos e valores das culturas africanas e afro-brasileiras. Esta pesquisa pretende contribuir para reflexões a respeito de livros com personagens negros que compõem acervos de EMEIs, oferecendo elementos para um trabalho pedagógico com profissionais da educação e crianças que valorize a diversidade.

This research was the subject of investigation of children's literature books that feature main characters black, present in the school library a Municipal School of Early Childhood Education (EMEI, in portuguese) from São Paulo, whose collection consists of books sent by the procurement program of the City of São Paulo and the National School Library program (PNBE, in portuguese). The research was conducted in three stages: (1) survey and analysis of the listings and the books selected and sent to schools by PNBE Brazilian children's education in the years 2008 and 2010; (2) assessments and analysis of all the works belonging to the collection of EMEI; (3) read each of these works and group analysis of books whose characters were black. The theory used relates to literature, children's literature, the studies relating to black and its representation. After analysis of the listings and books PNBE, it was concluded that: (1) in the years 2008 and 2010 this program sent to preschools four books that feature black characters as protagonists, and, in the collection of EMEI, among the 1,500 books of children's literature, were found 33 works whose protagonists are black; (2) considering the tiny amount of work with black actors found during this study, it was concluded that these characters are underrepresented both in the collection of EMEI as the program PNBE; (3) some books from the collection have stereotypes about the black character and some elements involving implicit and explicit prejudice. The study also found that many books of the collection value elements of corporeality and black aesthetics, plus aspects and values of African cultures and african-Brazilian. This dissertation of masters aims to contribute to the discussions about books with black characters that are part of the collections of EMEIs offering elements for pedagogical work with children and education professionals that values diversity.
