A formação continuada, no atual contexto social e econômico, é condição fundamental para uma atuação profissional que atenda as demandas sociais vigentes. A escolha e a definição deste tema atrela-se à necessidade que o mesmo desperta pela sua complexidade e atualidade. A responsabilidade que recai sobre a educação superior, pela produção e disseminação dos conhecimentos necessários ao desenvolvimento econômico do país, promove preocupação, a partir da expansão da educação superior ocorrida nas últimas décadas, na comunidade acadêmica. Parte-se do pressuposto que o desenvolvimento contínuo do professor faz parte da natureza do seu próprio trabalho. Considera-se, também, que a pesquisa pode possibilitar que o professor compreenda e analise seu ensino. E é nesse sentido que esta investigação busca entender, como a pesquisa contribui para o desenvolvimento profissional do professor da educação superior. Sob tal perspectiva, o presente trabalho tem como objetivo analisar as contribuições que a pesquisa proporciona ao desenvolvimento profissional dos professores da Educação Superior. Teve-se, ainda, o objetivo de: analisar como ocorre a inserção da pesquisa no desenvolvimento profissional do docente, que atua na educação superior; conhecer como a formação, para a docência e para a pesquisa, ocorreu durante a vida profissional destes professores; investigar como as pesquisas realizadas pelos docentes estão articuladas e/ou vinculadas à sua área de atuação no ensino de graduação; e entender qual a percepção de formação docente que este professor apresenta. Os dados para a pesquisa foram coletados e analisados considerando a abordagem qualitativa como pressuposto teórico e metodológico. A entrevista semi-estruturada compôs a etapa de coleta de dados e esta foi escolhida por ser uma técnica que possibilita investigar temas estritamente complexo e a análise de conteúdo foi utilizada para o tratamento dos dados. Os dados indicam que a formação docente do professor da educação superior carece de propostas institucionais e de políticas públicas destinadas a sua efetivação, que a pesquisa possibilita a formação de um profissional reflexivo e crítico e que o desenvolvimento profissional do professor está sendo entendido como um processo coletivo que envolve o próprio professor, as instituições formadoras e as pessoas que compartilham o ambiente de atuação profissional. O tema de investigação proposto é carente de estudos e indica-se a área da docência da educação superior para novas pesquisas.

The continuous formation progress in the present social-economic context is a fundamental condition for professional behavior that answers social demands of today. This subject choice and definition are related to the necessity that the subject has by its complexity and prevailingly. The responsibility given to higher education, meaning production and dissemination of necessary knowledge to Brazils economic development, concerns, starting from its big expansion that occurred in the past few decades, the academic community. Starting from the idea that professors continuous development is part of his/her own job. It is also considered that research allows the professor to understand and analyze his/her teaching. From this point of view, this investigation aims to explain how research contributes to professor development in superior education. Considering this, the object of this study is to analyze the contributions that research gives to professional development of the professors at the superior education. Other objectives include to study how research is introduced to superior education professors during their professional development. Also, this study aims to understand how the formation, concerning teaching and research, occurred during the career of professors. Moreover, this investigation also shows how research done by professors is expressed and/or related to their specialty in superior education. Finally, the study aims to understand which perspective of teaching formation that the professor shows. The data used in this research was collected and analyzed considering the qualitative boarding as a theoretical and methodological assumption. The semi-structured interview was the data collecting method as it is a technique that allows investigating highly complex subjects. The content analysis was used to treat the data. The data show that teaching formation of the superior education lacks institutional purposes and public politics directed to its execution. The data also demonstrate that research allows the formation of a reflective and critical teacher and that the professors career development is being understood as a collective process that involves the professor him/herself, their educational institutions and the people that share the same working environment. Currently not many studies exist in this field. Therefore more studies should be done to increase knowledge in this area.
