Este estudo tem como foco central os grupos juvenis que utilizavam, à época da pesquisa, o Centro Cultural da Juventude CCJ, equipamento da prefeitura de São Paulo, para o desenvolvimento de suas atividades culturais. O objetivo foi conhecer seus integrantes, seus estilos, bem como os modos de utilização das instalações do CCJ e de que forma este equipamento poderia ou não auxiliar na constituição e na consolidação das ações empreendidas por estes grupos. O trabalho empírico desenvolveu-se entre 2008 e 2010, tendo sido dividido em duas etapas. A primeira etapa envolveu a aplicação de um questionário junto a 29 grupos, com o objetivo de caracterizá-los, conhecer os usos e atividades que realizavam no Centro Cultural da Juventude, assim como sua eventual frequência a outros equipamentos públicos ou privados. Em um segundo momento, foram realizadas observações não sistemáticas no equipamento, com a finalidade de verificar a frequência dos integrantes dos grupos ao CCJ, tendo sido feitas entrevistas em profundidade com 3 dos grupos. A partir das observações e das narrativas dos grupos, constatou-se que a instabilidade do número de componentes é um dado estrutural desses coletivos. Buscam, na rotina dos equipamentos, na permanência das instituições e dos organismos, algumas condições para a existência no interior da instabilidade que os caracteriza. Outro aspecto revelado pelo estudo foi que a presença dos grupos no equipamento fez com que a direção efetuasse alterações nos espaços previstos para a utilização, ampliando, assim, o rol de possibilidades para atender às demandas dos grupos. A presença de diferentes grupos também possibilitou que o CCJ alargasse o seu entendimento de cultura, abrindo espaço para o lúdico em sua programação. A diversidade de expectativas dos diferentes grupos revela a necessidade de abertura de canais de interação permanente com esses coletivos, de modo a constituir, por parte dos gestores, uma capacidade de escuta mais aguçada dessas demandas.

This is a study about the youth groups that, at the time of the research, attended the public Youth Cultural Center, in the city of São Paulo, to perform their cultural activities. The purpose of the investigation was to get to know the young group members, their lifestyles, as well as the ways they used the Centers spaces and services. Another goal was to investigate in which ways this particular public institution was able (or not) to help the groups in the constitution and consolidation of the activities they performed. The empirical research, carried out from 2008 to 2010, was developed in two steps. The first step included a questionnaire application to 29 youth groups, in order to profile them, to get information about their utilization routine of the Center and about the activities they performed there, as well as the groups occasional attendance to other public or private leisure or cultural centers. In the second step, the researcher developed nonsystematic observation of the youth groups in the Center, to check their attendance frequency. In this step the researcher also did in-depth interviews with 3 groups. The results show that the instability in the number of group members is a structural characteristic of these groups. They seek existence conditions within the instability that characterizes them in the routine of the Center and in the permanence of the institutions. Another aspect revealed by the study was that the presence of the groups in the Center has encouraged the administration of the institution to promote changes in the spaces, widening the spectrum of possibilities in order to answer to the groups demands. The presence of different groups also made it possible for the institution to broaden its understanding of culture, creating opportunities for ludic activities in its program schedule as well. The diversity of expectations of the different groups reveals the need for permanent communication channels with these groups, so that the managers of the Center construct the ability to listen more carefully to these demands.
