A presente dissertação tem como objetivo compreender o processo de construção de um ideário sobre o Brasil por jovens estudantes do ensino médio da Escola de Aplicação da Faculdade de Educação da Universidade de São Paulo. Partimos da hipótese de que esse retrato sobre o país é construído a partir das vivências em uma pluralidade de espaços pelos quais os jovens circulam como a escola, grupos religiosos, família e, também, os meios de comunicação, entre muitos outros. Compreendemos que a construção dessas imagens se dá por meio de processos socioculturais híbridos, em que estruturas ou práticas sociais que antes existiam isoladamente se combinam para gerar novas estruturas, objetos e práticas. Ou seja, trata-se, nas palavras de Néstor García Canclini, de um processo híbrido. Nesse cenário, compreendemos o processo de socialização da contemporaneidade como um espaço de múltiplas relações sociais, em que o indivíduo desempenha importante papel ao negociar e articular informações, valores e sentidos. Ou seja, todos construímos retratos sobre o país com base nas vivências experimentadas em cada um desses subespaços formadores.

This dissertation is aimed at understanding the process of formulating opinions regarding Brazil on the part of young high school students from the Escola de Aplicação (Laboratory School) of the Faculty of Education at the University of São Paulo. We start with the hypothesis that this portrait of our nation is built on the basis of life experiences within a plurality of spaces frequented by these youths, such as schools, religious groups, and family and, also, the communications media, among many others. We understand that the construction of these images occurs via hybrid social-cultural processes, whereby social structures or practices that had previously stood alone come together to generate new structures, objects and practices. Or rather, in the words of Néstor García Canclini, this is a hybrid process. Within this scenario, we understand the process of socializing contemporaneousness as representing a space for multiple social relationships, in which the individual plays an important role by negotiating and articulating information, values and directions. In other words, we all create portraits of the nation based on our life experiences within each of these formative sub-spaces.
