Esta investigação pretende analisar as expectativas e motivações de estudantes universitários que optaram por cursos de graduação de licenciatura no Ensino Superior. A relevância do estudo está na baixa atratividade que esses cursos exercem aos jovens que saem do Ensino Médio, por questões relacionadas principalmente à desvalorização dos docentes e à remuneração média inferior a de outras profissões. Por isso, investigar o que os motiva a escolher a profissão de professor(a) pode contribuir para a reflexão sobre como aumentar essa atratividade. Desta forma, além da pesquisa bibliográfica sobre o tema, optou-se por consultar estudantes do último ano de cursos de licenciatura, sendo o grupo selecionado de licenciandos da Universidade de São Paulo (USP) dos cursos de Pedagogia, Geografia, Matemática e Letras, com habilitação em Português. Por meio de questionários com perguntas sobre as características socioeconômicas, as motivações que os levaram à escolha por cursos de licenciatura, as aspirações na carreira, assim como os desafios que esses estudantes esperam encontrar no exercício da docência, analisou-se a representação da profissão docente pelos 88 participantes da pesquisa. Os dados coletados nos questionários foram comparados com outras informações oriundas de estudos recentes sobre atratividade e carreira docente, verificou-se que a valorização profissional é uma das maiores expectativas dos pretendentes à carreira de professor, sendo que o reconhecimento dos alunos e o aumento da remuneração aparecem como essenciais para essa valorização. Com isso, pode-se refletir sobre formas de aumentar a atratividade da carreira e, consequentemente, expandir o número de profissionais licenciados e qualificados para o exercício da docência na Educação Básica.

The following research aims to analyze the expectations and motivations of university students who chose Licentiate graduation courses. The relevance of such studies lies in how uninteresting this type of degree is to students who have recently concluded High School, mainly because being a teacher equals one of the lowest payments in the market when compared to other professions. Therefore, I aim to investigate what are the reasons that motivate aspiring teachers to pursue this profession willing to find means to make this sort of graduation attractive to young people in our modern society. That being said, the research was made not only through reading the chosen bibliography but also, interviewing a selected group of students who opted for a Licentiate degree from the University of Sao Paulo (USP) from the following courses: Pedagogy, Geography, Mathematics, e Letters Brazilian & Portuguese studies. Questionnaires were answered regarding their socioeconomically backgrounds, motivations and goals regarding their careers, as well as the challenges they hope to find while teaching. 88 partakers were analyzed. The results collected were compared to other information coming from recent studies about the attractiveness of being a teacher. It was able to verify that the valorization of the teacher as someone who makes the difference in the students lives is the highest expectation among the future teachers as well as a higher salary is essential so that the profession acquires a better reputation. With all those steps it is expected to find yet other manners of making being a teacher attractive to the young generations and expand the numbers of qualified teachers in Brazil.
