This work aims to investigate the presence of poetic texts in literacy and reading learning processes in order to reflect on the experiences with poetic language of a group of children (six to nine years), in the trajectory of the reading and writing, in the early years of schooling (1st to 3rd year of the nine years elementary school cycle). In our literacy project "The challenge of teaching reading and writing in the context of elementary school nine years" (Notice No. 038/2010 / CAPES / INEP), we understand the need to work with the language without isolating it from its literary universe, and, to that end, we start from hypothesis about the capacity of oral and poetic texts to potentiate subjectivities more akin to the learning process of reading and writing. Opposing the project to the dominant pedagogical concepts in government guidelines, which give great value to genres of everyday life (leaflets, recipes, logos and marketing genres), we realized that working with the poetic texts (poetry, songs, rhymes, riddles, tongue twister, etc.) linked to the poetic function (the poetic language playfullness) we could form a network of oral memory that already rooted potentialities for the children's literary taste. According to Pound (2006), the aesthetic features that are present in poetry are comprised of three modes: the use of the melopoeia, the fanopeia and logopeia. From the work with a collection of poems for children that would take in account this triad and the study of the basic features of its figures of speech and its mnemonic aesthetic (rhyme, meter, alliteration, assonance, etc.), we saw that poetry is fundamental to the teaching and learning of our children. To contribute so that an array of poetic texts could be established in the child's memory is to make it possible to expand its reader and subjective capacity to deal with different genres. With this premise, we outlined in a theoretical and practical research the extent that poetic texts have in the daily work with literacy and how the reception of these texts by the children indicates the need for a didactic-methodological planning that addresses the diversity of poetrys aesthetic and formal features to enrich the teaching of fluent reading and creative writing.
