Este trabalho tem por objetivo investigar por meio de uma leitura sistemática os elementos que compõem a teoria psicanalítica articulada na obra de Otto Fenichel (Áustria, 1897 - Estados Unidos, 1946). Sua hipótese é de que essa teoria se organiza em torno dos compromissos epistemológicos do autor com o naturalismo das teses psicológicas freudianas e com o materialismo-dialético da tradição marxista. Nesse sentido, este trabalho visa fornecer uma análise mais detida de um autor que representou uma posição teórica um tanto ortodoxa em relação à psicanálise freudiana, sendo um crítico contumaz dos desvios idealistas perante as teses naturalistas de Freud, e que, ao mesmo tempo, ganhou fama por fazer uma oposição de esquerda dentro das instituições do movimento psicanalítico por onde passou. Assim, tratando tanto de temas associados à fundamentação e à natureza do conhecimento psicanalítico, quanto de temas relacionados ao engajamento políticoinstitucional de Fenichel, esta tese pretende trazer uma pequena contribuição para os estudos de filosofia e história da psicanálise. This work aims to investigate by means of a systematic reading the elements that compose the psychoanalytic theory articulated in the work of Otto Fenichel (Austria, 1897 - United States, 1946). Its hypothesis is that this theory is organized around the epistemological commitments of the author with the naturalism of Freudian psychological theses and with the dialectical materialism of the Marxist tradition. In this sense, this work tries to give a more detailed analysis of an author who represented a certain orthodox theoretical position in relation to Freudian psychoanalysis, being a contumacious critic of the 'idealistic' deviations from Freud's naturalistic theses, and at the same time, who gained fame by making a left-wing opposition within the institutions of the psychoanalytic movement where he was present. Thus, in dealing with themes related to the grounds and the nature of psychoanalytic knowledge as well as themes related to Fenichel's political-institutional engagement, this thesis intends to make a small contribution to the studies of philosophy and history of psychoanalysis
