Foregrounded on the themes of indiscipline and bullying, schooling and educational practices in a public and a private school in the municipality of Serra, Brazil, are analyzed. The issues involved and discussed comprise indiscipline and bullying in school relations, with special reference to the following: 1) the manner school managers and teachers of the two schools differ, cope with and characterize the two phenomena; the reasons they provide for occurrences and the way they intervene; the manner they characterize the profile of the so-called disobedient and aggressive students; the way profiles are related to the issue of dual hierarchy described by Adorno (1995a); 2) the manner Six to Nine 9 Year students of the two schools distinguish, define and describe the frequency of bully occurrences, their typology and the way they are affected by cases of indiscipline and bullying. Discussion will also include the manner students qualify the profile of colleagues considered aggressive and/or people lacking discipline, relating them to the issue of dual hierarchy and autonomy vis-à-vis authority. Research is based on the Critical Theory of Society, especially the principles described by Adorno, Horkheimer and Benjamin on the formation of the individual and their critiques on the mechanisms that make difficult or impair formation. Interviews were conducted with school managers (principals and school coordinators) and teachers of the subject matters Portuguese, Mathematics, Physical Education and Arts. A questionnaire was also provided to Six to Nine Year students so that they would give their opinion on the occurrence of indiscipline and bullying and the manner they themselves are affected by the issue. Results of current research reveal the following items: occurrences of indiscipline and bullying are frequent; lack of preciseness exists since in some case aggression cases are mentioned to give examples of indiscipline; bullying is described as mere aggression without being identified as a continuous activity against the same target; their attribution to factors exclusively external to the school institution; lack of any plans or preventive actions against violence or indiscipline. Authoritarian practices and, in some cases, meritocracy tend to be predominant in the two schools due to the fact that students are punished, coerced and seduced. There are similarities and differences in the manner indiscipline and aggression occur: in certain cases they are rather pronounced among Six Year students and, in other cases, among Nine Year students, with similar proportions to gender issues. Teachers´ opinion and, in certain cases, students´ point of view on the profile of alleged unruly students underscore that bullying students are good sportsmen, with weak school performance; they are frequently considered idols, but refractory to all authority, revealing the persistence of dual hierarchy. With regard to relationships between aggressors and teachers, the latter show several difficulties in establishing any relationship with bullying students
