Abstract in English
This study aims at identifying prejudices contained in advertisements through stereotypes and incorporated to the means of subjectivity during adolescence, having as a basis the identity production process conceived by psychoanalysis, as well as the works of Adorno and Horkheimer in respect of the cultural industry. Depositions were taken under the participatory observation method. Individual meetings were held with six adolescents from both genders between twelve and seventeen years of age, during which we discussed videos of pieces of advertisement recorded by them. In this study I analyze three sessions of meetings held with the adolescents and two pieces of advertisement. I notice the appearance of actors having significant differences in ten, out of seventy-two advertisements recorded by such adolescents and that such appearance was restricted to African descendent actors and one Asian descendent actress. Such appearances happen predominantly in a stigmatized way (seven, out of ten advertisements), followed by the denial through simulation (four advertisements), thus contributing to the stereotypy and the perpetuation of prejudice against deviating groups. In connection with the perception of such pieces of advertisement by the adolescents I noticed that five of them were not aware of the exposure of stereotypes, thus agreeing with the prejudice contained therein and revealing an egoistic fragileness bearing narcissist traces of personality. I further notice the oscillation of opinion among some of the adolescents of the group subject to this research inasmuch as during a same session of deposition two of them expressed both agreement and disagreement with certain circumstances and stereotyped characters that they had recorded, leading to the conclusion that although prejudice is introjected by means of incorporation of stereotypes deemed true, in some other moments there is also space for meditation and criticism on the part of some of those adolescents, pointing out towards an identity's production process through singularization.
